3 Important Things You Must Know About Researching Companies on LinkedIn
How much time do you spend using the Companies search on LinkedIn? Whether you’re actively job searching or looking to build professional relationships, you might be overlooking this valuable feature. Following are 3 essential ways to use the Companies search on LinkedIn:
- To run a company search, use the drop down bar next to the blue magnifying glass icon at the top of your page. Select “Companies” from the list, and type in the name of business you want to learn more about. This will take you to their company page, which has information posted by the company to which the page belongs and analytics provided by LinkedIn. Some company pages will be overflowing with information while others may be very sparse.
- At the top right of a company page, you’ll find a “How You’re Connected” section. It’s a quick way to discover who you know or could connect to at that company. Ideally, you’re looking for any 2nd degree connection relevant to your career goals, who you can convert into a 1st. Then when hiring managers from that company are using LinkedIn to stealthily find qualified candidates, you’ll come up sooner because you’re in-network to them.
- As a job seeker, you should research and develop a list of ideal employers for which you would love to work. They may be in a great geographic location, offer a larger or smaller workforce, or be in a different industry that appeals to you. LinkedIn is ideal for this because on each company’s page, there is an additional category in the right hand column called “People Also Viewed.” The 6 company icons depict either competitors or similar businesses, and will provide a springboard for your search to find new possibilities.
Remember, you can search within companies for connections by their role, location, and industry to find the people it would make the most sense to network with.
